Jodie Foster speaks about Mel Gibson

In the midst of all his woes, Mel Gibson still has a friend, and quite a well-known one at that. Double Oscar winner Jodie Foster has made it very clear in an interview with More magazine that she is supporting Gibson “through this dark moment”, referring to the recent video footage of him being shown in a somewhat unfavourable light. “You don’t abandon [a friend] when they are struggling,” she said. The release of her latest film, The Beaver, might be postponed simply because it has Gibson in the lead role. Photo credit: eonline.com
  • Fitnh : The point here is not what Gibson and Polanski did. Both are scabmugs. The point is the REACTION to what they did. Gibson seems to be carrying a scarlet letter because his insanity seems to violate the liberal orthodoxy that rules Hollywood. Polanski's far worse crime (and it was a CRIME) is forgiven because he makes films like The Ghost Writer that CONFIRM Hollywood's liberal orthodoxy. In other words, it's not about talented and deeply troubled men it's about a company town that seems willing to give you a pass as long as you hold the correct opinions and support the correct causes. It's about the laughable claim the Hollywood doesn't informally push an almost uniform political message in its filmmaking via a network of social control, disapproval and unofficial blacklisting.
